Finite Element Investigation of Harmonic Response in Laminated Skew Plates with Variable Circular Cut-Outs for Marine Structural Components
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this investigation, a laminated composite skew plate with circular cut-outs has been analysed to observe the free vibration and harmonic response by employing the FE package ANSYS. The effect of operating variables like boundary condition, thickness ratio and varying diameter of holes placed at the middle is represented here with respect to performance of different examples and the key findings are considered here for discussion. The schematic and comprehensive study of the model has been done with published literature by using an 8-node 281 shell element. A mesh size of 17 × 17 has been proposed to obtain the results. Results found from the comparison study are in good agreement with available findings. It can be said that the presently proposed model represents the accurate results. The outcomes of this investigation provide significant insights into the dynamic performance of composite marine structural components and can be effectively used in the development and optimisation of ship hull panels, offshore platform decks, bulkheads, and submerged structural elements subjected to dynamic and hydrodynamic loading conditions.
