Abstract

In recent times, due to advancements in material sciences, the metal used in marine applications has shifted from
conventional steel to composite combinations. These campsites have a significant advantage in terms of strength-toweight ratio, which helps reduce energy consumption in marine applications. The major challenge in using composites is their fabrication process; without optimal fabrication parameters, the composites may perform worse than metals for the application. In this, we approached the economic stirring casting process using an optimal design stirrer to fabricate an aluminium-silicon composite. The final design is produced in a casting container measuring 200mm in diameter and 200 mm in height. The most efficient stirrer design is an 83 mm diameter, 450 blade angle, 118mm shaft length, operated at 270 RPM. This combination produced a homogeneous, void-free composite suitable for marine applications where constant moisture contact is present.
