Abstract

Marine infrastructure includes docks and piers, offshore oil rigs, and shipbuilding (hulls, decks, and superstructures) all make extensive use of mild steel. When combined with appropriate protective coatings or cathodic protection, its high tensile strength, exceptional weldability, ductility, and affordability make it a top option even if its low carbon content makes it vulnerable to corrosion in saltwater. By producing a refined, uniform microstructure without melting the material, Friction Stir Processing (FSP) enhances the surface characteristics of mild steel. The present investigations involve the simulation study of friction stir processing. The study is done to analyse the surface morphology and process parameters involves in friction stir processing. The simulations are performed with 100 N force and 52.36 rad/ sec and the output parameters like deformation, shear stress and shear strain were calculated. The results found were suitable and useful for the further study.
