Abstract

This research examines the microstructure and mechanical behavior of Ti-6Al-4V/TiC components produced through
Selective Laser Melting (SLM). Four critical process variables-laser power (250–350 W), scan speed (700–1500 mm/s),
layer thickness (40–60 μm), and hatch spacing (100 –150 μm) were systematically analyzed via Response Surface
Methodology (RSM), and second-order predictive models were built to correlate these parameters with the resulting
mechanical properties. Under optimal processing conditions, the fabricated specimens achieved peak values of 1195.69 MPa in tensile strength and 1284.45 MPa in flexural strength. Microstructural analysis, conducted using SEM, X-ray and EDX, revealed strong interlayer fusion, uniform distribution of alloying elements, and a low incidence of internal defects, while the material’s deformation characteristics were further evaluated through true stress–true strain curves and strainhardening behavior.
