A Study on the Effect of Shot Peening Parameters on the Wear Behaviour of AISI 4135 Steel
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research investigates the wear resistance behavior of AISI 4135 steel surface subjected to shot peening- a mechanical surface treatment known for its ability to enhance surface hardness and thus material durability.Employing a two-level factorial design, we investigated how varying load levels, abrasive sizes, and shot peening intensities influence wear. By using parameters such as 7N vs. 1N load, 90μm vs. 30μm abrasive sizes, and Almen intensities of 0.487 vs. 0.118 mm, we developed a regression model to predict wear rate behavior. Our findings indicate that wear increases significantly with load and abrasive size, whereas higher peening intensity mitigates wear, highlighting its potential for improving the lifespan of steel components used in abrasive environments.
