Analysis of Equivalent Cone Angle on the Performance of Wide-Angle Annular Diffuser
Main Article Content
Abstract
Wide angle diffusers become necessity, wherever there is limitation of space with the condition to recover the maximum kinetic energy to increase the pressure. The Present work analyses the effect of varying area ratio coupled with equivalent cone angle on the performance of wide-angle annular diffuser. The studies were conducted computationally in order to determine the effect of inlet swirl on the wide-angle annular diffusers with area ratio 3 & 4. The inlet velocity profile was as obtained experimentally with diffuser of equivalent cone angle 15°. The validated CFD model was used on parallel hub with diverging casing annular diffuser. Analysis was carried out with swirling flow having inlet swirl angle ranging between 0° to 25° in order to determine the performance as well as flow profile inside an annular diffuser. All the diffusers had same equivalent cone angle configurations of 10°, 15° & 20°.
