Abstract

The Present work investigates the effect of inlet swirl on the performance of wide-angle annular diffuser. The studies
were conducted computationally in order to determine the effect of inlet swirl coupled with casing wall divergence on the wide-angle annular diffusers with area ratio 4. The inlet velocity profile was as obtained experimentally with diffuser of equivalent cone angle 10°. The validated CFD model was used on Two types of diffusers in the present study have been taken. One type of diffuser was parallel hub with diverging casing and another type was both hub and casing diverging at equal angles. All the annular diffuser had casing angle being varied between 10° to 25°. Analysis was carried out with swirling flow having inlet swirl angle ranging between 0° to 25° in order to determine the performance as well as flow profile inside an annular diffuser. All the diffusers had same equivalent cone angle configurations of 10° & 20°.
