Enhanced Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-SiC–Chicken Bone Powder Hybrid Composites via Scroll Shoulder FSP with Threaded Pin Tool Profile
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research investigates AA6061/SiC/CBP hybrid composite fabricated by using friction stir processing (FSP) with
a scroll shoulder threaded pin tool profile. Without increasing processing cost this tool design enhances material flow and uniform dispersion of reinforcements. Microstructural characterization is done using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that revealed homogeneous distribution of SiC and CBP within the matrix. Al6061 hybrid composite exhibited an improvement of 19.5% tensile strength over the base alloy. Hardness also showed drastic improvement in developed hybrid composite exhibiting approximately 16.2% higher compared to AA6061 alloy. Elemental analysis confirms the presence and distribution of reinforcing constituents. X-ray diffraction identifying that there is no unwanted element is present. Fractography indicates a mixed-mode fracture characterized by dimples and facets. The result indicates FSP with a threaded pin tool with scroll shoulder is an effective approach for enhancing the performance of aluminium hybrid composites.
