Performance Evaluation of Cloud-Based Monitoring Tools for Maritime and Offshore Engineering Systems
Main Article Content
Abstract
Current maritime engineering methods in offshore applications use cloud technology in digital vessel monitoring systemsand cyber-physical systems. Recently, offshore maritime engineering applications have focused on employing cloud technology to monitor their applications in the digital age. Thus, this paper compares four prominent monitoring tools in maritime engineering practices or applications using cloud technology in different applications through a series of experiments based on tests on a cloud technology application to emulate different maritime engineering practices or applications. The results highlight scalability, resource management, real-time assistance, and operationality trade-offs with these solutions. Prometheus has minimal latency and excellent scalability for dynamic systems, while Grafana has better resource management and visualization. Nagios supports infrastructure-centric operation and has excellent alerting scalability, while AWS CloudWatch integrates technology well for cloud-native marine systems. The results help maritime engineers and system designers choose monitoring techniques for greater assurance and operationality in current maritime and offshore engineering systems.
