Abstract

Titanium alloys are distinguished by their exceptionally high strength-to-weight ratio, which is unaffected by the high
temperatures at which they are used. Because of this property, they are suitable for a wide range of different marine
applications. Titanium alloys have an exceptionally high corrosion resistance. The defects that arise may influence the part’s functionality in some way. In the present research, the fabrication of powdered Ti-6Al-4V into a rod using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and its machining were carried out with coated carbide tools, as is customary in the marine industry. As well, the morphology of both the powder at 50 μm and the rod surface at 10 μm has been discussed in brief. The workpiece at varying speeds and feeds, the tool wear and surface roughness that resulted from the process have also been examined, along with Taylor’s tool life analysis, and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) have also been provided.
